Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about vaccines, Meet & Greets, boarding, daycare, and the Island Spa.
Boarding
What vaccinations are required for dog boarding?+
All boarding dogs must be up to date on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DHPP), and Bordetella (Canine Cough). We highly recommend Canine Influenza (CIV). All dogs must be on flea preventative medication. Proof of vaccination is required before your dog’s stay.
What should I bring for my dog’s boarding stay?+
Bring your dog’s regular food, treats, and any medications in clearly labeled containers. Bowls are provided in every cabin.
How are dogs grouped or supervised during their stay?+
During playtime or enrichment, dogs are carefully grouped by size, temperament, and play style. Our team maintains a low dog-to-staff ratio for personalized attention and gentle supervision.
Can I get updates while my dog is boarding?+
Yes. We send report cards: themed photo updates and messages that capture your dog’s adventures, rest time, and happy moments.
How do meal times work?+
We recommend owner-provided meals on your schedule to maintain your dog’s home routine. If meals are not provided, we serve premium resort food options. Special diets and sensitivities are handled with care.
Daycare
What vaccinations are required for dog daycare?+
Daycare guests must be current on Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Canine Influenza is highly recommended. Flea preventative medication is required. Vaccination records are required before the first day of play.
How is Maui Dog Resort’s daycare different from traditional daycare?+
Our program is built around enrichment, balance, and individual attention, not just open play. Each dog enjoys a customized schedule with exercise, mental stimulation, recharge breaks, and small-group socials when appropriate.
What is a Meet & Greet, and why is it required?+
Before joining daycare, every dog participates in a free one-hour Meet & Greet session, a personalized evaluation of temperament, play preferences, and comfort level so we can place each dog in the most suitable activities. If your dog passes, they stay the rest of the day for only $25.
How do you ensure safety during playtime?+
Daycare areas are divided into indoor and outdoor zones with continuous monitoring, a low dog-to-staff ratio, and sanitized play yards.
Will my dog get recharge breaks during the day?+
Yes. Rest is essential to our daycare philosophy. Between play sessions, dogs unwind in quiet, climate-controlled Pup Bungalows to prevent overstimulation.

Can I schedule grooming with boarding or daycare?+

How often should my dog be groomed?+
Ideal frequency depends on coat type, activity level, and lifestyle. Our stylists are happy to recommend a schedule that fits your pet’s needs.
